Do you dream about elevators? I do…read what it means here…
For months now my recurring dream/nightmare has been that I am in an elevator in a really tall building and it either won’t go up or it shoots up uncontrollably and won’t stop on my floor or that it drops. I always wake up before it crashes or something bad happens but I am really scared. A friend leant me a dream book and I found the following:
Taken from ’ The Complete Dream Book’ by Gillian Holloway, PhD:
Elevators tend to appear in dreams featuring some kind of bizarre malfunction. You push a button and go sideways or fly hurtling upward through the roof. Others report that the elevator crashes and they are either killed in the dream or emerge shakily from a horrifying fall of many stories. As with all symbols of movement, elevators tend most often to reflect our progress with a current question or problem.
One young woman, promoted into a stressful position that left her rattled and bewildered, dreamed reportedly that no matter what floor she requested the elevator soared upwards uncontrollably at breakneck speed. She had the giddy sense of being forced upward, unable to control her speed or destination. People who are experiencing a sudden increase in power, responsibility, or recognition report this dream, which I call the Upward Fall, rather frequently. It seems to matter very little that the circumstances they are struggling with are positive (except that perhaps in the sense that we tend not to give ourselves permission to feel negative emotions about positive events and thus our responses are less well processed).
As with all dreams of elevator malfunctions, this one highlights the sensation of loss of control and the disconnection between what you ask for and what you get. In dreams of sideways movement, the individual is usually going through a concerted effort to make progress that is essentially futile or inappropriate. The implication is that even if your current plan works, you may find that you’ve only succeeded in prolonging your stay in a situation that cannot possibly fulfill your needs.
Rather than pursue the carrot that is in front of your nose, or the relationship you are trying repeatedly to mend, take a step back and consider what you want for the long term. Then set out to move in a manner consistent with what you really want to have.
Most people dream of elevators falling or crashing when there is something causing a sinking feeling in their lives or when a particular habit, relationship, or problem seems to be slipping out of control. I do not find these dreams to be predictors of danger, but in one sense they do serve as signals that it is time to stop pretending that nothing is wrong.
If you are getting into debt, eating everything that isn’t nailed down, or letting things slide at work, these daytime signals say the same thing as a falling elevator. Something is getting away from you and it’s time to pay attention and at least be honest with yourself about it. The good news is that getting clear and conscious in your own mind about the situation is the most empowering step. From there your will start to see options differently and you will have a hunch about the most painless and effective way to correct whatever has gone off track.
Elevators movements reflect how well conscious attitudes and actions are serving to move you toward the conditions you desire. If the elevator malfunctions, then you are not getting what you bargained for or you may be contributing unwillingly to a patten that is no longer in your best interest.
This is a fantastic book and deciphers so many dream symbols it is definitely worth a read if you are having recurring dreams about anything in particular.
I need a place like that
Reminds me of one of the rooms in the Edinburgh Castle. Extensive collection.

Wild Thing: Spring’s New Python Pedicure
by Sarah Brown
YSL Python Platform Wedges; Pedicure by Terri Silacci;
Photographed by Raymond Meier
The python trend is everywhere this spring and fall. Including my feet. I’m not talking about Marc Jacobs’s chunky wooden platforms with the skinny red straps or YSL’s intensely beautiful shades-of-blue wedges—although they’re on my list. I’m talking about my toes.
Everything about this pic is cool. Very into animal print at the moment, I can’t get enough!

Think I might cut my hair short like Callie Torres on Greys Anatomy & like Izzy before her, I really like it. I have quite long hair at the moment so it’s a big change…
Singapore Travel Tips:
- You may get hayfever like allergies over the first few days in Singapore, they say it is because of the humidity, the smog and the heat - stock up on Vitamin C & it should pass after 2 or 3 days;
- You must visit Chinatown! The streets surrounding Temple St are abound with little market stalls & shop houses - it’s a lot of fun searching through & the atmosphere is great. Also the temples are stunning (pic to follow)
- There are fabulous underground mall links between some good hotels & MRT (particularly the Swissotel, City Hall, Esplanade, Raffles & Suntec) some great little stores can be found in these tunnels;
- Do the Singapore Zoo & Night Safari - talk about up close - no cages or big fences here.
- The views from the top of Marina Bay Sands is worth the cost to get up there - the hotel is def worth checking out too - there are boat rides along a canal amongst the shops.
- The MRT is so simple & easy to get around on, cheap too.
- Don’t expect US prices - food can be cheap and good but other items like clothing/IT are more on par with Aus costs.
- Take a good pair of walking shoes to get around all the shops!
I will post more if they come to me but it is a great vacation spot & wonderful shopping (tho not typically cheaper than Aus it has a good selection).
